Reliving the Final Journey: Watch the Full Broadcast of Rev. Fr. Aloysius Pieris’s Funeral Services

March 26, 2026

On Tuesday, March 24, 2026, the Tulana Research Centre, alongside an international community of clergy, scholars, artists, and beloved friends, bid a final earthly farewell to our visionary founder, Rev. Fr. Aloysius Pieris, S.J.

Understanding that Fr. Aloy’s profound impact reached far beyond the shores of Sri Lanka, we ensured that his final rites were broadcast live for the global community. For the thousands of former students, international collaborators, and well-wishers who could not be with us in Kelaniya, we have made the full recording of the day’s services available below.

The broadcast captures the deeply moving Funeral Mass held at the Daham Sihila Seminary, followed by the final commendation and burial service on the serene grounds of the Tulana Research Centre—the very institution he breathed life into over five decades ago.

Throughout the services, heartfelt tributes were shared, reflecting on his 92 years of life. Speakers honored his unparalleled contributions as an Asian Jesuit theologian, his groundbreaking work in Indology and Buddhist Philosophy, and his unwavering dedication to the marginalized, most beautifully realized through the Centre for Education for Hearing Impaired Children (CEHIC).

Above all, the gathering was a testament to his deep, welcoming humanity and his joyful “Christian Sensuality.”

We extend our deepest gratitude to TULmedia and Talento for their meticulous work in producing this broadcast, allowing the world to unite in prayer and thanksgiving for a life exceptionally lived.

May his soul rest in eternal peace.
