Dalugama, Kelaniya (March 28, 2026) — Today, the enduring legacy of Rev. Fr. Aloysius Pieris, S.J., was honored through a profound act of life-saving generosity. To commemorate his recent passing and celebrate his lifelong dedication to humanity, a special blood donation campaign was held today from 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at the Centre for Education of Hearing Impaired Children (CEHIC) in Dalugama, Kelaniya.
The inspiring initiative was organized by the dedicated Parents’ Association of CEHIC. Throughout the day, parents, staff, alumni, and community well-wishers stepped forward to donate blood, transforming their grief into a powerful act of giving.
The Centre for Education of Hearing Impaired Children holds an incredibly intimate place within the wider “Tulana Family.” Founded in 1982, Prof. Rev. Fr. Aloysius Pieris served as its founding Co-Director alongside Rev. Sr. Greta Nalawatta. While the global academic community remembers Fr. Aloy as a towering theologian, Indologist, and philosopher, he himself frequently stated that co-founding this educational sanctuary for hearing-impaired children was his life’s greatest achievement.
Through CEHIC, Fr. Aloy worked tirelessly to ensure that marginalized children received free, auditory-verbal education, empowering them to integrate into society and build independent, fulfilling lives.
Donating blood—the ultimate gift of life—is a deeply fitting reflection of Fr. Aloy’s own journey. His life was one poured out entirely in service to others, guided by his deep faith and an unwavering commitment to justice.
The Tulana Research Centre extends its deepest gratitude to the CEHIC Parents’ Association, the medical staff, and every individual who donated blood today. Through your selfless actions, the deeply rooted love and “Christian Sensuality” that Fr. Aloy championed continues to flow and bring life to those in need.
